The Blue Mountains group are a diverse group of people who share a common interest in the craft of knitting.

Beginners, experienced and expert knitters, the group meets every third Saturday of the month, at the Glenbrook Panthers Bowling Club, 1 Hare Street, Blaxland.

Meeting from 1:00 till 4:00pm the group endeavours to further the skills of the group through regular show and tells, workshops and talks.  Books and patterns are available from our small lending library. Non-members are welcome to attend.

A small contribution to the room hire will be required when attending.

First workshop of 2022 will be held prior to the February meeting.  Guild member Kathryn Trippett of The Australian Woolstore has generously offered to run a workshop on mitred square knitting. The technique can be used to make fabulous geometric patterns for blankets, garments, and other accessories, and is a great way to use up leftover yarn in a scrappy project! 

Kathryn will be teaching her own twist on the technique using stocking stitch and a vertical construction, as featured in her free Bias Square Blanket pattern (pattern attached and image below). 

In this workshop you will work on your own mini sample to master the technique, and can view samples of the finished blanket for inspiration. 

Time: 10:30 to 12:30 in the usual room, with the regular meeting to follow at 1pm.

Materials:

• Leftover yarn scraps of the same ply.

• Needles of appropriate gauge for your yarn. Kathryn recommends DPNs if you have them and are comfortable using them, otherwise regular straights or circulars will do just fine.

• Self locking stitch markers

Cost: Free!

Homework: It would be helpful to have two squares knitted and ready to go using the 21 stitch square instructions. That is, two separate squares with a stitch marker in the last live stitch. Then we will be able to jump straight in with the important information such as joining two squares and adding a square to the beginning and end of a row. Instructions for the 21 stitch square are on page 11 of the attached pattern.
